That is a lot of seconds to be walking the earth.

So I recently hit 49 on the clock 'o life. That's 588 months, 17,897 days, 429,525 hours and 1,546,290,648 seconds. One year away from half a century.

The day I was born, the biggest news was around the Watergate Scandal. Seems like not much has changed in 49 years since Presidential scandal and nonsense dominated the headlines this year on my birthday as well.

Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder was the number 1 song (great song), Star Wars was two days away from releasing and changing the world. It was the year of the Voyager 2, Atari 2600 and peanut farmers running for President.

Pretty darn good year if you ask me.

Fast forward 49 years and here I sit. Happily married, father of two great kids, a reasonable mortgage and a mountain of existential dread.

Music sucks, cinema is a disappointment, politicians are no longer hiding all the evil they do, but are proudly embracing it. It's like the creativity and soul have been sucked out of the world, and in the emptiness left behind mediocrity, lies and corruption have taken their place.

There isn't a point to this post really, just observations and navel gazing as I contemplate the future my kids will inherit, and how murky it seems right now.

I had high hopes for my generation (GenX) burning down the bad to make way for a newer, more feral good, but between the Boomers refusing to cede power and the apathetic truth of what we have become, it seems like the weight now falls on our children, and their children.

I just hope there is time left to right the ship.
