I apologize that it has taken me this long to post about this, but I have been busy getting Persian 1.0.1 ready for release as well as working on cleaning up the mess around Fresh and Clean. But as we all know, anything worth having is worth waiting for.
Now that I have a moment to breathe, it is time for the second installment of Site Spotlight that I promised you on Friday. Khaled Abou Alfa is the proprietor of one Broken Kode, and the co-creator of Manji, Uber-theme 3 for WordPress. If you are not a fan of Kubrick, or Persian then I would suggest you take a moment to check out Manji, it is beautiful.
Manji is a drop in theme for WordPress 1.3, art direction and finishing coding was performed by Khaled, with Architecture and preliminary coding handled by Root the Infamous... pause for thunder clap. (read: I have no opinion on the whole Root vs Michael issue, Michael and I are contemporaries and have had very pleasant conversation; Root and I have never had any discourse, all I know of him are from forum posts which are the worst ways to get to know someone. So there, I could care less if you are a Root supporter or a Michael supporter, go download my theme and leave me alone!)
Okay, back to the issue at hand, Manji. Khaled has done an excellent job of creating a clean, easily modifiable theme, there are already sites popping up that have used Manji in interesting ways.
I have been updated by Paul that he is using Persian as well as Manji and Kubrick for his site. He is waiting for a "bug free" theme switcher to debut the Kubrick and Persian flavors. Good stuff!
My favorite so far is This Is Not A Love Story he is a trader to the Persian World, but hey forgive and forget I always say. Which brings me to one of the nicest features that Khaled has built into Manji, the idea of Flavouring, in a nutshell a Flavour is a theme that is a derivative of Manji in some way. Serious potential here, from Khaled's introduction of Manji:
One of the first ideas that came to me as I was doing the design was to actually have something called a flavouring system. Since I always intended Manji to have a GPL license, I thought any derivatives could have their own unique name as well, chosen by the person who did the mods. That way people could put their own signature. So when eventually you download the theme and change it around a nice and uniform way of naming would be
