There are many languages to love. From the woman who feels loved when the garbage is taken out, to the teenager who just wants to be reassured that yes, happiness can be found in a warm embrace. At $work, I have stepped into a managerial role where I am tasked not only with the care and feeding of the other developers in my area, but the mentoring and development professionally of the junior developer that has recently come on board.
In many ways this is pretty exciting for me. I love to mentor people; watching someone develop and grow is a rare privilege not enough of us are afforded. Likewise, being able to help guarantee a positive work environment that is conducive to ridonculous level code being produced by the more senior members of my team is incredibly satisfying. As I was about to begin the process of crafting my first entry for Project 52, I suffered a botched upgrade of the software that powers Sillyness.
I had grand plans to knock out a new theme for 2010, complete with custom illustrations for each post, but that didn’t happen either, because of the afore mentioned upgrade snafu. In one of those moments that can only be viewed as a gift from the universe, I realized that the complete collapse of my plans was a very good thing. Read the rest »
