SSWI — When in doubt, buff it out.

Asides with Habari,

So I thought I would outline the process I used to achieve the inline asides effect you are seeing on Sillyness. This was one of those moments where I just love how Habari handles things.

So lets set the stage

So this is what we are going to do. First we choose a tag that we will use to identify our asides. I chose “quickie”. Once we have settled on a tag that will be used, we create at least one entry that uses the tag.

Once we have some content to test with, we move on to some PHP goodness. Habari returns an array of tags within the $post object. Normally we would make a call to the tags like so:

Inline asides, whatever you want to call them, prompted by Kristin enabling them on her site, this is how you do it with Habari.

There are a couple of things to look at before we get into the actual code:

  1. Habari doesn’t use categories like WP or MT, we use tags.
  2. We need to choose a tag that will identify our inline asides.
  3. The Habari loop is much simpler than what you are used to from something like WP.

Okay, with that out of the way, let talk through what we are going to do to achieve the quickie/inline asides that you see on this site.

Back, but still out of touch,

Written in Plano, TX on September 2, 2006 and tagged with and .

We just arrived home from our vacation, and boy am I glad to be home again!

I will update with pictures and text when I have time, but right now I need to crash for a bit.  Oh and since I didn’t get any response to the stopping at The Varsity in Hotlanta, we just came on home… I hope there weren’t any people there expecting us to show up.

Out of Contact,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am in Georgia visiting family.  I am thinking of trying to have an impromptu meetup with WordPressers and other interested persons at Varsity in Atlanta.

I will post more as I know more.

One of the worst days,

I just had one of the most stressful days of work in my life.  There have been administration changes at my place of employment, and with it some hard looks at the way we do business.  One of those looks was the website; I am going on vacation tomorrow to see some family, and I didn’t know until 5:00pm today if I would have a job when I returned.

No fun I tell you, no fun at all.  And yes, thankfully I still have a job!

I have the audio of this clip in my iTunes rotation, but there is nothing like seeing the Shat himself work it.  Behold the greatness that is William Shatner doing Rocket Man.

WebKit for Windows,

Apparently there is a browser based on WebKit for Windows.  I haven’t been able to get it to install on my intel iMac running windows yet; when I do I will update with some thoughts on the experience. — via The Hicks

Our next style spotlight,

Written in Plano, TX on August 3, 2006 and tagged with .

As you can see I have moved onto another K2 style or modification.  Huh, so this is a mod of a mod… I think I can hear the fabric of the universe beginning to tear assunder.

This is a wonderfully styled theme, with some very nice attention to detail.  Very, very nice job Ben.

Something is in the wind,

As you can see, I am sporting one of the many styles that are available for K2 on the site. I am feverishly working on the next version of Sillyness, and I thought that in the interim I would highlight some of my personal favorite styles that are available for K2.  I am hoping that things are settling down enough to get back to serious work on K2, so look for more on that front in the coming weeks. And if I don’t showcase your style, its nothing personal mate; Tastes are different is all.

A quick tip,

If you are a proud owner of an eyehome and an HDTV, configure your eyehome for 720p, even if your set is capable of 1080i.

The difference is astounding, especially when watching avi files of your favorite shows… looks like it is coming in over the wire.
