You know it is time to just launch the thing, and take a breather.
I started out this particular design full of hope and energy; after about 3 days the energy was gone and hope was on a south bound train out of Chicago. I think I am honestly losing my ability to design for the web.
I am planning on writing up an analysis of this design and the thoughts behind it once it is in a better state, but until then go look at some really good design, courtesy of Veloso the wonderboy and Matt the rough, smudgy… scratchy guy.
Anyway go, look at good design, and hope Mike gets his act together and launches a site sometime today.
Oh and for those of you out there not blessed with large screens and high res fear not; I am prepping an alternate version of the site that will be much kinder to your constrained proportions.

I don’t know… I happen to like redesigns:) That said, I’ve had a few days to relax after finishing my reboot early:)
I’m looking at it in 1280 x 1024, and it looks great … but yeah, not many are running that resolution I’m bettin’. Anyway, it looks great Chris. I’ve been journeying ‘round the 9rules ‘booters and all of you are doing fantastic jobs. It make me envious …
Also, I really liked you “About” info. I may have personally missed it, but I had no idea you were as devoted to faith as you obviously are. Kudos Chris. Keep on keeping on.
LOL. I went looking for your about section again (I read it last evening), and I can’t find it now! Just for those who may be wondering what I was commenting about.
Wide layouts are always great to have. I decided to go with a wide design for the reboot only because the web stat readership for 800x600 was about 5% on my site.
I like your new look. Lots of whitespace.
I’m using 1024x768 and it’s a little cut off, but you know that. Doesn’t really bother me too much, maybe it should. o_0 I love wide designs. If I could come up with one that fit my 1024 res screen I’d dump the 800px one I’m using now.
I like it very much! Great work.
Wow.. it is so nice to see your re-design! This is looking good. It really makes me want to go home and put up my blog. It has been in the ‘Almost Done’ stage for way toooo long. I think I just need to do it.
Thanks for the inspiration.
On the home page,.. how did you call the recent post titles off to the right? Are those entered in your post excerpt field? or is that a plugin?
just curious.
I think the best thing about your site has always nee the functionality features that you played around with. Althoughyou have removed alot of them recently..,, at one time they were a big help to my growth as a coder. Bring back the Silly University!
thank you.
love the new design, specially the search functionality. however the new wide design is cramping my 12” powerbook style. honestly, horizontal scrolling is a real pain. please, please, please, don’t make me scroll!
And here I thought the horizontal scrolling was suppose to remind us all of the 90s… :-)
Well done, Chris! Very well worth the wait!
If it werent for redesigns, I think I’d have nothing to post about.
P.S: totally love the new look. what version is this? omega supreme? grimlock?
I like it a lot! It looks lovely and I didn’t have a hard time finding what I was looking for. The way of showing current vs. past posts on the frontpage is interesting, and I like how you’re using a very horisontal layout without a clear sidebar.
Very un-blog-like, which you should most definitely take as a huge compliment.
I really like the clean look. Definitely worth the hassel :)
A great design you’ve got here, looking forward to your writeup on the process. :)
Really like the design. Nice and clean. :)
First: I like your redesign! :)
But I have lot of trouble to find older posts - the “SEARCH” (what’s the difference of “MY THOUGHTS” and “MY MEMORIES”?) was not very helpfully…
Also I don’t like the “The Projects, werd.”-part that is repeated after every post.
At last, my screen-resolution is 1024x768 and I have to scroll horizontal - not so nice…

Not sure if I updated this post before you commented or after, but I am aware of the size issues (I have a 12 inch powerbook as well as it’s larger brethren) and I am prepping a version that will be much nicer on the small screened.
Should be in the next day or two… hopefully.
