Have you ever wanted to easily integrate social networks like Facebook and Twitter into your commenting system, much like Disqus? I know I have. Disqus is a great idea but moves the storage and in a very real sense, the ownership of the comments away from you the site owner.
That always bugged, me since you know, we all have comment systems on our sites already. What, other than making it easy to send your comments to the aforementioned sites, does Disqus really give you?
Not much from where I am sitting, hence this plugin.
I have long found it frustrating to manage my site from the trusty iPhone. Until recently my innate laziness has trumped my desire for a better experience, so I just left it alone and only went to the iPhone when I had no other choice.
I am not sure why, but last week that all changed. Maybe it was how completely awesome jQTouch is. I mean out of the box, UI included, it is beautiful. Since someone else did all the heavy lifting UI interaction wise, the little bits I would need to do to slam some functionality in didn’t seem so daunting.
After a couple of nights of feverish work, I have a solid plugin that adds a shiny mobile interface for iPhone, Android and Palm webOS users. I am using the default skin for now, since it is very sexy. I plan on creating something more custom later as I have time. For the moment though it is scratching the itch.
Feel free to download, install and give this little bad boy a try. I am thinking through what else to add to the app, so suggestions are always welcome.
A blast from the past, Rate It! is a plugin for WordPress that provides three core features. Firstly it allows the site owner to rate his/her own posts with one of two options:
Secondly the plugin gives the site owner the option to allow visitors to vote for posts. This isn’t a star rating system, it is more of a “Love it!” rating system which I find much more compelling.
Lastly the plugin provides a theme template file you can assign to a page in your WP install to show a list, sorted by popularity, of all your favorited posts.
The source code for this plugin is hosted at the WordPress site in the extend section, but until I get some issues with authentication worked out there, I am hosting the updated files here.
This plugin has been updated to work with WP 2.9.1 and later.
Every time I sit down to write a post, I dread typing out the URL, etc. It had gotten so bad that I was just not linking up sites I referenced in my posts. That was much badness. What I really needed was a way to type out all that stuff one more time, and then let the software do the work for me.
Enter Frequent Reference. Simply add the websites/companies you reference often into the system and FR will take care of making them links when they are displayed to your readers. Couldn’t be easier.
For those of us who love conversation on our sites, we tend to have the same people commenting over and over again. Why make them sit in the moderation queue with the spammers? We know they are solid so we should just let the on in.
And that is exactly what PreApproved does. It checks the info submitted by the commenter and if passes muster, they are automagically approved.
Simple.
