“… Generally speaking, I think you could say that Science Fiction films have roots in ideas, whereas fantasy have root in the fantastic.”
I would amend this to say that SciFi films have roots in ideas that are taken to the fantastical.
So one of the little gatherings I have orchestrated lately is a soon-to-be monthly support group for SciFi movie buffs.
The idea is that we get together at someone's home once a month and watch a different movie. The movies should encompass the totality of the genre. Meaning, we need classic SciFi, modern SciFi, epic, etc.
We are starting off the summer with an epic SciFi film, "the Chronicles of Riddick". I would like to build a list of movies that we can draw from throughout the summer and fall, so I am sending this call out to all you SciFi nuts on the internets. Yes Michael I am looking straight at you.
Leave me a comment with the name of your favorite SciFi movie, regardless of type, and a brief reason why you like it so much. I am also thinking of setting up a site to help people create support group chapters in their area, so your recommendations would end up there as well.
Thanks in advance for the help!
PostgreSQL support landed today, giving Habari 3 databases we support out of the box. Rawk.
The project that I worked with Matt Brett on last month has finally hit the interwebs. It was a rawking good time to work with Matt, and I think we are both pretty proud of what we produced for Chris Pirillo.
It was fun and odd, all at the same time, to be working with WordPress again. It has been over a year since I had done anything with it really; but you know what they say about bikes and remembering how to ride them!
Go check it out, the site looks great and has some pretty cool functionality to boot.
“…Habari mostly lets you concentrate on the ideas and gets out of the way of the code”
If you need a house, have 100 dollars and a good story then run, don't click, on this link. Good luck, and good writing!
Man, it has been a good couple of days for those of us in Habari land.
Yesterday we added two more commiters to the project, Ali Al-Wasity and Michael Heilemann. They both have been doing amazing work on Habari, and it is a real sign of our commitment to the meritocratic model that we extended membership to them.
This brings our commiter pool to 22. Just fantastic. If that wasn't enough to make me smile, I found out this morning that Habari has been added to the FreeBSD Ports Collection, and we are well underway with some of our translations.
Speaking of great work, Owen lit a fire under our collective butts and we are hard at work getting Monolith in shape and ready for release. You won't believe some of the insanely cool things we have coming.
It is safe to say that steam is being picked up and Habari is set to take some major leaps this year. I hope you are all along for the ride.
Don't you just hate it when life sneaks up on you and takes all your free time?
The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of work, family, church, more work and fun. Just a little fun in there to keep me from going insane.
I just finished a super fun project with one of my favorite designers, which has put me in a very good mood. I am pretty proud of the code I turned out, and it has given me an idea for a new tutorial for my WordPress friends out there.
Yeah, you know you love me.
