Back from the brink

UPDATE #2: I have released a minor update that adresses the missing "" in the comments link.  So those of you out there that care about validation can breathe easy again.  Get it at the usual place.

UPDATE: I had left out one crucial piece of information from the setup directions, so the zip file has been updated.  The only change is that I have now stated as a last step that you must open your index.php and find this line:
<?php comments_popup_link(__('Comments (0)'), __('Comments (1)'), __('Comments (%)')); ?>
and replace it with
<?php cjd_comment(); ?>
once that is done everything should be peachy.

That's right I am back with a new plugin.  And the plugin is now ready to go.

Per Post Comment Text.  You can see it in action on this site right now. You will notice that some of the links to view comments look normal, Comments (0), while others are a little different.  This plugin allows you to set the text of you comments links on a post per post basis.  Pretty snazzy.

Right now it handles everything you can throw at it, except post that have comments closed.  At this time the plugin still just displays whatever you have set as your text.  Right now the plugin has a default value, in this case Comments, so that if you don't want to add a custom link to an article you still have a default to fall back on.

Another November...

Another NaNoWriMo.

This will be my third one, and hopefully I can actually finish my story.  I have yet to "win" so this would be a nice change of pace.  If you haven't yet had the pleasure of participating in this glorious event, please go on over and kick the tires, it is most fun.  Chris Baty runs a fun, tight ship so fear not, he and his band of hooligans keep you motivated and going all through the month not to mention the support from other Wrimoers.

Must go and dream up a pretentious name for my next attempt at the Great Mediocre American Novel.

The Vote Commeth...

For those of you who are still attempting to decide what candidate to vote for this year, please listen up.

Apple is offering all three Presidential Debates, and the single Vice-Presidential debate for free download from the iTunes Music Store.  This is a great gift to the American people, and one that we should not take lightly.  You are being given the oppurtunity to be informed when you go the polls, and I for one am not going to let this slip by.

If you have iTunes installed and have an account at the store, which is free and easy to set up, follow this link to load the page that allows you to download the various audiobooks.

Picture Updates...

I have posted pictures from my trip to St. Tikhon's Monastery a few weeks ago.

Caution, harsh usability waters ahead.  I love Pictorialis, at least the severely hacked up version I am running, but there are some things that are painful about it.  For the time being if you wish to see the images in order, you will need to click the following link and then use the previous page link.  If you do that you will see the images in the order they were taken.

The images start with this one and go on until you reach the image of St. Alexis Toth, which happens to be the newest image.

Enjoy.

Off to South Canaan

Well it look like any updates for OhioLinux and Midwest Diocesan Assembly will have to wait for next week.

I am about to leave for South Canaan PA, the home of St. Tikhons Seminary.  A group of men from my Parish and I will be installing a computer lab on the campus over this weekend.

Well I need to go, keep us in your Prayers.

Hello from the greater Detroit Area

Just a quick note to let you all know that I and my Wife are now in Lavonia Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, attending the MidWest Diocesan assembly.

I will be presenting to the assembly on some software that I and a couple of others from my Church are creating.  It should be interesting.  Well I just wanted to throw out there what we are doing at the moment, since I had promised a more complete update about OhioLinux, complete with pictures.

That will have to wait I guess for some other time.

Ohio Linuxfest

Greetings from Ohio Linuxfest 2004, Bacchus, Skippy and a host of others have decended upon Columbus Ohio on this dreary Fall day to geek out on all things Linux.

I will be posting off and on through the day, so stay tuned.  Well it looks like the show is about to begin so see you soon.

2:30pm
I am sitting in the Novell presentation, "The Future of the Linux Desktop" so far so good.

I have to say that the "keynote" presentation was less than desireable.  He never introduced himself and his presentation rambled from Linux as a political system to a philosophy, and then even a religion.  Not very good.  Next up was Rich Bowen and his tweaking apache talk.  Very good, and very informative.  Rich had a wonderful audience for it and he looked comfortable.

Well back to the talk, I will post again when I can.
