House Beautiful...

Mortgage company fugly.

Yes, that is correct; my wife Heather and I have been going through the process of buying a house for the last six weeks.  And let me tell you that it has been hell, H E double hockey sticks hell.  My discontent arises from the conduct, or should I say misconduct of the woman who is handling our mortgage.  She has been the most unprofessional, rude person I have met.

From spontaneously talking to someone else in the room when on the phone with my wife, and then after three or four minutes saying "Oh sorry, what were you saying?", to this past Thursday evening when she returned a call I left on her voicemail where she basically told me off, and then as I was trying to retort hung up on me.

Now I know what you all might be thinking, hey that $#@%&!  Call her supervisor and complain!  Yes that would make sense and don't think I haven't thought of it!  The only problem is that she is the supervisor, more correctly she is the branch manager, and to go over her head I need to find an area or regional manager.  I plan on doing this in time, but for now I just want to get the mortgage finished so we can move into our house.

I will keep you posted.

New Computers, and stuff...

Well yesterday Apple Computer smacked everyone upside the head yesterday with super-spiffiness. (Editorial Note: Please forgive Chris, he is still in a state of euphoria from said announcement.)

Not only did Apple announce the release, in August (jerks), of the new spanky Powermac G5, they previewed Panther aka the upcoming release of Mac OS X... and iSight and iChat AV, and Safari 1.0!

Shoo, that is alot of new stuff for me to assimilate.

One thing I am really happy about, is that the power has really come home... finally.  In August the machines shipping will clock in at 1.6, 1.8 and dual 2.0 ghz, with FSB running at half processor speed.  Yep that is right if you are the prowd owner of the top o' the line Dually, you wil have a FSB running at 1 ghz.

Add to this the fact that the G5 is a 64 bit processor allowing for the breaking of the 4 gig RAM barrier; they all now support 8 gigs of RAM, as well as the fact that they all come equipped with digital and analog audio in and out, and you start to see the potential here.  Oh and one other thing; they start out at $1999 for the low end model, a 1.6 ghz single processor going all the way up to $2999 for the top o' the line dual 2 gig.

You may think this is a might expensive... and you would be right until you looked at the competition, which now is the 64 bit processor market.  As of this time the only computer that compares with the power and feature set of the G5 (and it really doesn't in any way.) is the HP zx6000 which is weighing in at around 4900.00 dollars for a single 900 mhz system, and they don't offer anything above a dual 1.0 ghz set up.  And oh did I mention that the HP is a server, and the G5 is a dektop?

For the record...

Let me just say this for the record... again.

There are two distinct people blogging here.  There are no “Alter-ego's” or any nonesense like that, there is one pseudonym but that is it.  I am not Mr. Hibbity Gibbity, and he is not me.

Thank you for your attention and goodnight.

Evangelism

Fellow newly illumined James Smith has asked the question, "What does evangelism look like in the Orthodox Church?".

So far Bert Athanasius and Kevin Basil have answered the call.

My response to this is simply; I have no idea.  I have not been Orthodox long enough to assume that I have a handle on what this would look like in the midst of the post-modern environment of American Society.  The only example I can point to are the monks of The St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood, who have succesfully integrated themselves into the culture and lives of the punk rockers of california.  Some information can be found here.

That is all for now.

Silly, silly man...

UPDATE: Apparently the joke was not straightforward enough, my apologies.

So if you would like to read the article without having to find it, as viewers of the aforementioned blog have to find the signs site, here it is.

Over at our old friends blogs4God I noticed that one of the “bloggers” had reviewed the movie Signs.  Again I am prompted to write a book on Good Blog EtiquetteTM, since the author of the review deigned to link the site of the movie he was reviewing.  Tisk, tisk.

I will be blogging about this in length later, providing a much more relastic and informed review of the movie and its underlying current of faith and the human condition; I will be waiting so that I can watch the movie again so that it is fresh in my mind as I am refuting the sillyness that exists in the linked review.

Until then, remember: don't think for yourself, or God forbid search a movie or novel for deep meaning.   Expect everything to be handed to you, or explained out right as if you are a three year old child.

Words of wisdom.

So you want substance...

This is for that certian someone who last Sunday stated that there was nothing ever good on my blog.

Over at the digital abode of Dr. Bacchus he posted a lovely entry regarding loss and how those remaining choose to deal with it, or not as it falls.

One visitor to the wine god's site chose to comment and drew ire from the Lord of Thacker, formerly the Lord of Woodspointe; and hopefully soon the Lord of Applegrove, aka as Chris J. Davis.  So any of you that would like to taste the flavours of seriousness from this author should head over there right away.
