Oh the POWER!!!

Well this is the first post with the new and improved laptop. Ahhh yeah, Powerbook G4.

Real World Results

Just a quick note. Recently Xinet Benchmarked a group of the leading server setups on the market. Included were the Xserve, and the Dual G4 Powermac.

Surprise, surprise, the Xserve was the best performer in the 2 processor crowd, and actually performed better in Photoshop open tests than some of the 4, and even 8 processor units.

Now, what do you know about that?

The Power!

Although I have yet to use it regularly, Yesterday at 5:25pm I became the proud, if not somewhat obsessive owner of a tiBook. That is right, I own a shiny new Powerbook G4. I know a guy who cut myself, as well as my brother-in-law, a snazzy deal on a 500 and 550.

So as of (hopefully) 5:30 pm today I will lay my faithful, but wholy depressing G3 Wallstreet to rest.

Amen

I'm getting around...

Well what do you know about that? I sent an email to John Patrick, sharing my thoughts on his Subway Surfing blog entry.

Mr. Patrick was kind enough to list some of my comments on his site, I only wish he would have linked back to my blog. Oh well internet decorum is still being fleshed out in these areas. I am just happy that someone as knowledgeable and respected as Mr. Patrick has thrown their hat into the ring so to speak. It really lends an air of respectability, and credence to the blog movement.

A real life Switch Commercial

If this isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread, I don't know what is.

I picked this up from WhatDoIKnow.org:

OCA Monastery in Colorado

An APB, of sorts has been released via OCA.org. The wildfires that are raging out of control in Colorado are coming dangerously close to the Protection of the Holy Virgin Monastery. From the OCA website:

Protopresbyter Robert Kondratick, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church in America encourages all to pray for the safety of those near the fire,

a WiFi world.

I ran across this article over at 1infiniteloop.com

It seem that a couple of software engineers decided that they were through letting the cable and phone industries dominate broadband. So they formed a partnership in a garage, that eventually led to the company Etherlinx. From what I have been able to gather the principles seem sound and the deployment of this technology feasible. It will be intersting to see the outcome of this venture and the impact it will have on the monopoly held by the Tele Communications giants at this time.

Respect, Honor, and Valour.

My wife Heather and I, as well as one of my best friends Basil gathered this evening around that magical box in our living room, you know the one that sucks away your creativity and capacity for rational thought. Oh yeah, you call it a T.V.

To my suprise, nay delight, the moving pictures accompanied by sounds was not only good, but excellent and awe inspiring. I am of course referring to the critically acclaimed cinematic feature, Black Hawk Down. I am not one who usually goes for the war movie, unless it is set in a more civilized time, where men bludgoned themsleves to death with sometimes blunt, sometimes sharp objects.

But I must confess that the recounting of those events, the loss and the Heroism got even to me. If you had no admiration or respect for the men and women who risk thier lives everyday in the name of freedom, after watching this movie you should.

Wow.

A nugget of wisdom: Only friends can hurt friends.

Blogathon 2002

I just stumbled across this today.

Seems like a great idea. Another way to use the internet and our "Brave New World" to affect some kind of positive change. I am hoping to use OCMC as my charity. Unfortunately it seems that they have fallen prey to a common villian for organizations of this type, TechnoPhobia.

They have no system inplace to recieve donations over the web. No Paypal, or Merchant Account. Hopefully this can be rectified soon so that they can benefit for my masachist tendencies.
